Dream Time Creative helped to rejuvenate the Westgate Chapel into a welcoming, safe and accessible community space in the heart of Wakefield.

In the summer of 2022, the Asda Foundation’s Renovating Places Fund awarded us £20,000. The funding enabled us to make a wide range of improvements at Westgate Unitarian Chapel. It helped us to create a high-quality space for community groups and local residents.

The project included:

  • the installation of a new kitchen,
  • improvements to the chapel’s toilet facilities,
  • a new floor,
  • redecoration of the Vestry and hallway, and
  • important fire safety upgrades.

Visit from the Asda Foundation

Representatives from the Asda Foundation and Lisa, Community Champion at Asda, Durkar, Wakefield were welcomed to the Westgate Unitarian Chapel. Their visit gave them the opportunity to see the improvements, and to film the positive impact the funding was having on both the chapel and the local community.

Alongside the indoor improvements, Dream Time Creative and our volunteers worked hard to enhance the outdoor spaces around the chapel. The photographs below show some of the work undertaken. This includes:

  • the creation of flower beds,
  • the installation of benches and
  • wider efforts to improve the environment for visitors and community groups.
