Florence Beaumont was a prominent Wakefield suffragist whose campaigning helped advance the cause of women’s voting rights. Several blue plaques recognise her achievements, including one shared with her sister Gwendoline Beaumont and fellow suffragist Millicent Fawcett.
You can read more about Florence’s life, her work for women’s suffrage and her family connections on our Florence and Gwendoline Beaumont and Millicent Fawcett page.

Florence Beaumont’s Wakefield Blue Plaques
Florence is Blue Plaque Number 2 in our campaign for Blue Plaque Parity.
We unveiled Florence’s first blue plaque for International Women’s Day 2019 as part of the theatre production Difficult Women? at the Mechanics’ Theatre. Florence and our women also featured substantially in a commemorative edition of the Wakefield Express to honour International Women’s Day 2019.
Florence’s second plaque is on the Registry of Deeds Building, named after her. It was unveiled in October 2019.

Florence also shares a blue plaque, sited at Hatfeild House in Wakefield, with her sister Gwendoline and Millicent Fawcett.

Florence Beaumont Sculpture
The Forgotten Women of Wakefield project is fundraising for a sculpture to honour Florence’s work as a suffragist. This will be unveiled in 2028, the 100th anniversary of women getting the same voting rights as men.
